Endotoxin

Endotoxins are lipopolysaccharides (LPS), which are heat-stable molecules associated with the outer membranes of certain gram-negative bacteria.

Endotoxin contamination is dangerous and can trigger endotoxic shock, inflammation, or sepsis in Humans, animals, and even during tissue culture.

Routine monitoring of water systems and incoming materials can help to ensure that the process does not contribute endotoxins to the final product.

When bacterial cells are actively growing or when their membranes disintegrate upon death, the essential LPS components of the cell wall are released into the surrounding environment.

Endotoxin Testing Kits (BET/LAL)

The Bacterial Endotoxins Test (BET) is an in vitro assay for detection and quantitation of bacterial endotoxins. This assay is also known as the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) test and is sometimes referred to as the pyrogen test (because bacterial endotoxins can cause a fever in mammals, including humans).
